Pensions
j alford asked:

I know Obama is going to lower tricare premiums and allot of good things for the military, but I am wondering what he plans to do about the pensions? Is he going to increase, decrease, or keep it the same. Should I be worried. Thank you

  3. Obama SAYS he will lower Tricare costs but as a sitting US Senator, he could have introduced a bill to do it and he did not do it.

I expect you will get less money because retired pay (it is not a pension!) is taxable. It is included in your total income so sometimes puts you into a higher tax bracket. Since the view is Obama is going to increase taxes, you will be paying more of your retired pay in taxes. I would also expect it not keep up with inflation so expect smaller raises.

I would also not put it past him to try to tax VA disability payments. He may try it and “compromise” by having it untaxed but included in your overall income so you are kicked up into a higher tax bracket.

If you think Obama is a friend of the military, you are wrong. He will cut it. And his statement about forming a “civilian security force” equal to the military is very much a concern. Just what does he need a large force for? It kind of reeks of the SS or KGB..
